Proclamation To Declare December 8, 2019 Dale Dyer Day

Whereas, with great honor and admiration, we celebrate WWII Veteran Mr. Dale Dyer's 100th birthday. Born on December 8, 2019, in a rural home near Clearwater, Kansas. He relocated to Fannin County from Kansas in 1946 because Blue Ridge is his wife's hometown.

Whereas, his service to our country in WWII as an Army Air Corps pilot speaks volumes about his commitment to his fellow man and courage to lead whether in Armed Service or his community.

Whereas, Mr. Dyer has been a tremendous and valuable asset to small town Blue Ridge with his many accomplishments as a businessman, realtor, author, and devoted volunteer with countless hours contributed to the local Boy Scouts troops, his church, and a variety of other local charities.

Whereas, he has been instrumental in preserving Fannin County history, helped establish the Fannin County Historical Museum, shared interesting stories as a columnist for the Blue Ridge Newspaper, and co-authored Facets of Fannin County.

Whereas, Mr. Dyer is a recipient of numerous awards

  • Georgia Council for the Humanities;

  • Boy Scouts of America;

  • Daughters of the Confederacy;

  • The U.S. Presidential Service Center Award; and on

  • December 8, 2011, he was awarded a key to the City of Blue Ridge to name a few accolades.

Whereas, quoting Mr. Dyer “no one gets much done without the help of others”.

Whereas, an impressive feat worth the mention, Mr. Dyer parachuted out of an airplane on his 80th birthday and again on his 90th birthday!

Whereas, we are thankful for Mr. Dyer and all he has accomplished to make Blue Ridge the wonderful vacation and retirement destination it has grown to be with keeping it a small, quaint little town. His contributions can be noticed throughout the city and county and many have nice story to share about how Mr. Dyer has impacted their life in a positive way.

Whereas, December 8, 2019 will be declared “Dale Dyer Day” by the City of Blue Ridge officials.
