May 16, 2020 “Honor God and His Creation Event”

By Gary Chamberlain

This “Social Distancing Compliant” event provides an opportunity for all of us to show our pride and “Honor God and His Creation”. All Cherokee and Clay county churches, schools, businesses, etc. are invited to participate in a one-day event to fill (33) gallon bags with litter. All bags of litter are to be left on the highway for the NCDOT to recover. If you are hosting an at-your-own-risk event, let others know how they can contact and help you through our local newspapers, radio stations and TV stations. The responsibility, and liability of your event rests solely in your hands; be responsible for yourself and those who participate, don’t blame someone else if you get hurt. There are plenty of areas that are safe to pick up litter and they include the parking lots of the businesses that so generously donate to our communities. Free litter bags are available at these locations (call first): All bags must be NCDOT or orange colored bags. ü Cherokee Scout Newspaper, 89 Sycamore St., Murphy, NC, (828) 837-5122. ü Cherokee Guns, 1936 US 64, Murphy, NC (828), 837-7771. ü Murphy City Hall, 5 Wofford St., Murphy, NC, (828) 837-2510. ü Dr. Dan Eichenbaum, 1321 West US Hwy. 64, Murphy, NC, (828) 837-5404. ü Murphy US Veterans Thrift Store, 2810 W.
