If you have children in school you're probably aware of the basics that make up PBIS. The foundation of PBIS is the same for all schools, which is establishing a program to encourage positive student behaviors. The reward system is often different from school to school.
At BRES, all students and every aspect of the school is included; classroom, lunchroom, restroom, playground. Students earn Bear Bucks for displaying positive behavior and a positive attitude. All month long students collect their Bear Bucks. At the end of each month, BRES PBIS committee hosts a special day for students who have earned enough Bear Bucks to attend Reward Day.
Schools are finding PBIS is an effective alternative to traditional methods of discipline. Spending more time acknowledging positive behavior and less on dealing with negative behavior is creating a healthier learning environment for teachers and students.
